This is a unique training that recognizes the inevitability of death for each one of us and builds on our interconnectedness to skilfully bring together disciplines which are relevant and impact choices for everyone in caring for the dying. This training is inspired by completion of the revolutionary programme run annually over many years by Roshi Joan Halifax and team at Upaya Zen Monastery, Santa Fe, New Mexico, ‘Professional Training Program in Contemplative End-of-Life Care.’
The shape of the programme is held within supportive community and experiential learning with content that is not usual in mainstream training or in any other course. Our understanding is that in addressing the sensitive issues around dying our learning will evolve with the context. We see this model as one that is process –oriented, present- centered and that will evolve continuously as we come together with people from healthcare and related disciplines that bring all their experience collaboratively to this evolution.
The training is offered in support of those who are directly caring for the dying such as healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, social workers, hospice workers, psychologists, chaplains, complimentary therapy practitioners.
